My mom and I took a trip to Granville, Ohio last week to help a friend of my moms move out there. My mom has been the caregiver for a friend of hers for the past year and her family decided that they wanted to have her move out there to be closer to them. She is completely immobile so my mom and I flew out to Ohio with her. The trip out there was really good. Lisa (my moms friend) did really well on the plane and we were able to get her settled in her new home. Lisa's sisters were both there to meet us at the airport and they drove us back to Lisa's new home. We stayed for the entire week and my mom and I were able to do a few tourist things while Lisa and her sisters spent some time together. The first day we were there we went to Mansfield, Ohio and saw the Ohio State Reformatory. It was really interesting. The movie
Shawshank Redemption was filmed there. That took a couple of hours to take the tour and then we had to drive back to Granville which was about an hour and a half away. We spent that evening with Lisa and then we stayed the night at Kim's house. Kim lived a couple of minutes away from Lisa in a beautiful house. My mom and I had our own loft in the house with our own room and bathroom. The next day Mom and I went to Amish Country. My mom was excited to see the Amish. We drove for a couple of hours to get there and then we were able to eat at an Amish restaurant and we went shopping in some Amish stores. My mom found a beautiful quilt that she fell in love with the cost was $1175.00!!! She almost bought it too until she found a smaller one that she really liked and thought it was better not to spend that much money. We saw a lot of horse and buggies and we also saw farmers working in their fields using old tools and horses to pull them. We saw a lot of Amish Ladies walking along the road and riding their bikes. After that we headed back to Lisa's home and then back to Kim's again. We got a few souvenirs while we were in Ohio and a lot of pictures. The next day we headed home. Our last stop on the way to the airport was to the
Longaberger Basket Company. The office building was in the shape of a basket. It was the most incredible sight. The entire trip was really fun, but I sure missed my hubby and kids. The best thing was the night that we flew in Dave and the kids met me at the airport and the kids came running up to me with lots of hugs and kisses.
One of the cells in the Ohio State Reformatory. They were so little.
Very small living space!!!
My mom found a cell just for her. She loves gold.
The electric chair. This was a replica of the original one that they used.
The Reformatory was huge. This is only half of the building.
On our way to the Amish Country we past a couple of things. One of the things was this bridge. It is Ohio's Longest Covered Bridge. The only thing that can through it are horse and buggies and people walking. It was called the Bridge of Dreams.
On our way to Amish Country we got behind a horse and buggy. It was really fun to see it.
After my mom and I went to some stores and she bought her quilt we found this buggy sitting outside so we stood in front of it and took out picture. We could have taken rides but we didn't have enough time.
Yes, that is us standing in front of this huge basket. That is how big it was. It was so neat to see.
